Many residents wonder if Discovery Bay will one day become a City. At the present time, it is unknown whether or not our community has the funds needed to be self-sufficient / not dependent on the County. This is something that would need to be studied.
For those who are interested in learning more, below is a brief summary of the steps involved in pursuing cityhood:
- An incorporation committee is formed, and then a feasibility study is commissioned.
- If the study finds that cityhood is feasible, the LAFCO process may be started which involves circulation of a petition, verification of signatures and completion of additional forms.
- A detailed financial plan is prepared and additional forms are completed.
- A LAFCO hearing is scheduled and if LAFCO approves, the Board of Supervisors schedules a vote of the registered voters of the area.
If you are interested in finding out more about this process, please contact Contra Costa County LAFCO. For general questions, you can also contact the Town of Discovery Bay CSD at (925) 634-1131.
